personal views on SVHS in the near future
Dear Freda,
Just
came from the hospital. As I told you over the phone some alumni
initiated discussions with the Alumni Officers regarding what happened
with the proceeds, pleges and other activities during the Diamomd
Jubilee. Some not one walked out when Ms. Waking started asled the body
about the funds.According to Malou Oya-oy Facullo, who is my partner in
Pranic Healing the question of : who would like to be elected (new)
president of the Alumni when no records, reports or if there are, these
are not sufficient regarding all Alumni activities. This is a very
valid issue because if a new president is elected the possibility of
"no proper turn-over" of responsibilities, achievements or challenges
can take place. I for one would not like to be elected.
Second,
representing the Batch 80 I wrote a concept paper on what SVHS can
become in the next 5-10 years. We submitted it to the Alumni. Until now
we neve4r received an official written response. These seeming
indifference and observable behaviors of some alumni don't exactly
reflect who is a graduate of SVHS. Am not generalizing. Am stating and
observation. These are the reasons we initiated the Basic Pranic
Healing Course for the students. The Course is heavy on
character-building. One can realize the need to balance
spirituality(connected to Supreme Souce of every thing) and prosperity
which is a result of deep spirituality.
3rd, Even as we alumni
are willing, eager and able to help the school, I still believe that at
a certain point in time SVHS should refrain from donations of the
alumni. Am not discouraging those who want to donate but independence
from external sources should be short-term target of the SVHS with it
alumni. I think I include this in the concept paper submitted to the
alumni office. Am not trying to be boastful. I was Executive Director
of the Northern Luzon Pranic Healing Center NLPHC). At first we were
heavily subsidized by Pranic Healing Foundation Philippines. It paid
for our rent and overhead (about P27,000)/month . After 3 years the
NLPHC is producing P27,000 or more a month from its trainings, healing,
sales and tithes.
A self-propelling school or organization is
a vision for SVHS even in these times slow economic growth. It is
observable as it is now that SVHS like the Philippines is at a certain
extent being assisted by its alumni. Such situtaion, while it may seem
so Christian and good, is NOT SUSTAINABLE, neither is it very
Christian. Freda, am not a nun or a priest ( I have repeatedly said
this in the many occassions I was guest speaker in universities which
included students from (La Salle ), but even Christ "it is more blessed
to GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE". Such statement can be used as a -feel-good
rationalization for us alumni to keep giving to the school. That's okey
but again, that's jus part (half) of the story. Always at the receiving
all the time creates a mind set that is never hopeful. It
makes one dependent and worst it can be used to justify behaviors that
are deemed irresponsible as those exhibited by those who "walked-out
during the meeting when the funds/pledges gathered in the Diamond
Jubilee was about to be discussed. It is not just -mind set. Always at
the receiving end can be abused.
Freda, I don't know
how to upload this for every one to read. Do it for me. And for the
update on the Manao issue. Watch out for my next columns at Sunstar
Baguio. Am still gatherings the facts. I will include all your
comments. By the way, our heart-felt thanks. Am a government employee
and I just need a little4 caution coz some of your comments involve
powerful politicians. We just have to do it with "art and fashion" . I
trust you all get what I mean.
P.S. Dear everybody out
there, am discussing with other alumni how to go about the petition or
communication to the alumni officers regarding what happened during the
Diamond Jubilee (i.e. funds/pledges). We will need their documents of
meetings and talk to some of them to air their side. Sorry for the
lapses in syntax, grammar and spelling. I am rushing. Got to finish and
review official reports for the First Quarter.
