Response to Luz and and Yang-ew on Some thoughts on the future of SVHS
Dear Yang-ew and Luz,
Thank you for responding to or writing your comments on
the " some thoughts about the future of Saint Vincent High School" or to this effect, I wrote some time ago. It contains long and short term plans in the hope to make the SVHS sustainable. When we had our "career sharing and counseling with the 4th year students, we came to know that some of them our "scholars" of some scholarship through some good samaritans like some of the alumni classes and Bishop Francisco Claver.
Luz, your response/comment if i have gotten it right affirms the need for programs that will make the school sustainable which you(again if got you right) you have been telling to those in Hongkong. Good.
This is a discussion forum inviting all ideas that could "amalgamate" into a best for SVHS and every alumni and the Association. What's happening now is that Bontoc contrinues to be the "site" if not the "center" ( pardon the term). I repeat the SVHS is in the globe- a global village, so to say. Elections of officers still happen in Bontoc. How about those not in Bontoc like OFWs like you? That's why we are suggesting that we form chapters where ever we are.
A general assembly for the chapter can be conducted by those in the that place (outside Bontoc). We will review the Constitution and by-laws and proposed the necessary changes we all dim fit.
Thanks
Julio Kilayon Acofo

Establishing local chapters is a good way of lending support to the Alumni Foundation. It could be started right away for those who have the numbers. But first, it should be communicated to the Alumni Foundation executive body to find out their views and advice. At this time and ever since this website was disseminated, there was however no official comment from its end. Perhaps the Alumni Foundation is not ready to embrace the internet as one of its means of communicating to its members. Perhaps it only sees those who are in Bontoc as the official members, because when it comes to elections those physically present in Bontoc are the only ones who can participate.
With regards to the sustainability of SVS, I believe the Sta. Rita Parish is the one that maintains the school through its parish budget. The salaries of the teaching staff are paid from the parish budget as well as the cost of repairs and maintenance of the school buildings. The Alumni Foundation through its programs can assist here.
Regarding the Alumni Foundation's constitution and by laws, it needs to be reformed and updated. I suggest that a separate discussion forum should be created here solely for this purpose. We need more members to participate in these discussions.
